A Pain in the Neck...and Ear...and Jaw
Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) pain can be debilitating, causing missed hours at school or work and lost opportunities for social engagement. This type of chronic pain affects an estimated 12% of the adult population at any given time and statistics indicate the prevalence is twice as great in females. One or both joints may be involved and, depending on the severity, can affect a person’s ability to speak, chew, swallow, or even make facial expressions.
Often confused with severe headaches or ear pain, the jaw joints can become inflamed due to trauma, muscular fatigue, arthritic degeneration, or other factors. Non-surgical therapy may involve treating the inflammation, allowing the jaw positioning muscles to relax, and providing stability to the bite.
Early in her career, Dr. Myers suffered from TMD (Temporomandibular Disorder), leading her to pursue extensive training in understanding and treating the condition. Over the years, she has successfully helped hundreds of people find comfort and relief in managing this problem.
